We had an air predator attack over the weekend. 🙁
It was the middle of the day and we were just coming home from running some errands. I stopped at the mailbox and out of the corner of my eye I saw it….a massively HUGE hawk chowing down on some chicken for lunch!
The damage was done and I was left with a headless chicken and a hysterical 8 year old who loves animals of all kinds! Hahaha! We are still trying to teach her that we love animals and take care of them to the best of our ability but sometimes it is just a way of life that things happen like that, especially on a farm. I don’t want her to grow immune to the hurt of losing an animal and lose all feeling but I’m hoping we can at least move past the hysterics! Bless her heart! 🙂
My plan is to get 12 chicks in the coming weeks and now I will be adding one additional animal to that order….1 baby goose! From what I have found and by watching Justin Rhodes’ vlogs and seeing what Joel Salatin does on his farm, when a goose is raised with some chicks, it thinks it is a chicken and it will protect the flock from air predators. I sure hope so!!! We shall see when they arrive and grow up.
What have you done to protect from air predators? Have you raised a goose for chicken protection? Let me know in the comments!
